Stitches

So this last Saturday I got my first stitches ever...actually, my first anything. Never having had a cavity, cast worthy broken bone, sprained ankle or severe cut; I will admit it was quite the unique experience for me, and I kind of enjoyed it, as masochistic as that sounds.
It happened a little something like this- Andrea and I recently moved into an adorable house near Bush Park so as moving happens so does reorganizing, cleaning and unpacking. As well as having the new found glory of living in a real person house, we also have a yard, which has to be maintained. All that to say that Saturday was spent gardening, yard work, painting projects and unpacking random boxes holed up in the corner of our third bedroom. After a long days work we went to working inside, which is where it happened. As I told my mom, I've gone to referring to life in two ways, pre-cut and post-cut. This might make you think, "Wow! That must've been an incredibly traumatic incident, is her finger still there...will she ever be the same?" However, I assure you it was not traumatic, nor life threatening, I just like the two easy classifications. For instance, you might ask me "when did you go to Japan?" And to this question I can respond, "Oh, yeah, I went there pre-cut. It was pretty neat." See how easy that is!
Back to the cut.... So while moving a full length wall mirror it happened. Apparently, the corner of the top left was chipped, and this tiny fact unknown to me, it quickly and smoothly filleted the top of my thumb over the first knuckle. I did not cry. I did not scream. I just said "ouch," and walked into the kitchen to grab some paper towels. After careful inspection by me, Andrea and Brad we decided it'd probably need stitches. Urgent Care is a world of its own....one that makes you feel slightly more ill than you would had we just sat in the house the rest of the day and enjoyed the sunshine. However, they did me well, sowed me up with 5 stitches and a spongebob squarepants sticker, which I proudly wore for all of 15 minutes. Never having had anything medical done before, I couldn't help but watch what they did- a fish hook looking needle was used to secure the two side of my thumb together; I'm hoping for one of those cool football stitch scars along my thumb. A girl can dream right.
And that was that. Brad bought me icecream for my endeavor, Andrea and I continued unpacking random boxes and we ate some Costco polish dogs for dinner. Overall, a very successful evening I'd say. Oh, we also watched Mall Cop, probably top twenty worst movies I've seen, just saying, that was more painful then the cut, the process of numbing my thumb and the stitches.
